This Halloween Votive DIY Is So Easy, It's Scary!

Head to the dollar store and load up on votives or upcycle glass jars into these stunning and scary Halloween votives that make a statement. DIY mercury glass is all over Pinterest, which is where we found the inspiration for this project. Use finished votives to line the way to your door or for adorning your mantel; these candle holders are showstoppers that will have all your party guests talking. The more you make, the cheaper the project gets, so invite your friends over for votive-making fun.

What You'll Need:

Glass containers

Krylon Looking Glass Spray Paint

Newspaper

Vinegar

Small spray bottle

Paper towel

Scissors

Black spray paint

Directions:

1.Start by removing any sticky labels from the votives or wiping down glass jars so they are clean and completely dry.

2.Take outdoors, or to a well-ventilated area, and cover the work area with layer of newspapers. Place the glass containers top side down and coat with the spray paint, which gives the glass a mirrored look.

3.After coating, wait a minute, then spritz with equal parts water and vinegar, which creates watermarks on the glass. Let dry for one minute, then pat dry with a paper towel. Repeat with another coat of spray paint and then a spritzing of vinegar water.

4.Let paint fully dry for one hour. While you're waiting, check out free pumpkin carving printables for a stencil to use for the votive. Scale to fit the glass and print. Big tip: Using less detailed stencils offer awesome results, while ones with lots of small cuts and squiggly lines don't stick as well to the glass, creating not as stellar results.

5.Carefully cut out the printable and position on the votive, using a good spritz of the vinegar water to hold it in place. Quickly coat with black spray paint and let dry for one hour. The black paint gives the finished candle holder a smokey-glass look.

6.Remove the stencil, pop in a tea light, and you're ready for All Hallows Eve!
